The golf course will remain closed once again today. Thursday night into Friday we received just over 1.5″ of rain, followed immediately by 5 inches of wet snow. Last night, another half inch of rain fell. While this helped get rid of 99.9% of the snow, it left the course soaked and extremely soft. I expect the forecasted 30-40 mph winds today to dry things out enough for walkers tomorrow. We’ll make a determination on carts in the morning. The Pro Shop will also be closed today. Looks like the trade off for being closed a few days, is going to be amazing fall golf conditions the second half of the week.
The latest bunker renovations were completed last week, just ahead of the winter weather. We eliminated the “fairway bunker” well short of the green. This bunker really only penalized the highest of handicappers and bad shots. We renovated the existing, right hand green side bunker. The bunker is now slightly deeper and a little bigger, now resembling the style of the other bunkers around the course. On the left side, we removed the three large mounds. As you know, from the very back tees, some of the green and surround can be blind, and if your ball happened to hit one of the mounds, there was really no telling where it ended up. In place of the mounds, a new bunker was created. Drainage in and around the bunkers was added and updated. For the remainder of the season, the area that was renovated (inside the ropes) will be Ground Under Repair. There are two ball retrievers in the area of each bunker. Please do not walk down the bunker faces and stay off the sod if at all possible. The sod won’t be firmly in place until the course, and bunkers, open in the Spring.
