With tropical downpours in the forecast for tomorrow, our hope was for a full mow today. Luckily we managed to get all playing surfaces sprayed up yesterday, with plant protectants. But between last night’s sunset gullywasher, and this morning’s predawn thunderstorm we received 1.1” of rain, and the full mow is on hold as we work to remove water, and clean debris that fell. Hopefully things will dry down enough later this morning and we’re able to scramble the mowers around play, once we open. For now the course is closed.
There has been measurable rainfall every day since last Thursday, with about 5 inches falling last weekend alone. We are now up to just over 7 inches for the month of July.
Aside from the course being saturated, the ash tree that overhangs the back of 4 green and the collection area, was struck by lightning and is a safety hazard, and the green will likely stay closed until the tree can be removed. The tree is visibly split from about 10 feet above the ground to the top. Because it leans over the green, we are not equipped to take it down without doing extensive damage to the green and irrigation system. The damage from the strike could have been worse as they usually find the irrigation lines. As far as we can tell right not, we dodged that bullet.
